Volunteer at the Council Service Center
As we continue to serve more youth and families across Central and Northern New York, we are seeking volunteers to help staff the front desk at the Longhouse Council Service Center. This important role supports our mission by providing a warm welcome, answering basic questions, assisting with program needs, and helping create a positive first impression for everyone who visits or calls.
We Are Looking For Volunteers Who Can:
- Greet visitors and families with a Scout-like spirit
- Answer phone calls and direct inquiries
- Assist with simple administrative or customer service tasks
- Support council office staff as needed
Shifts Available:
- Weekdays between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Saturdays between 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- (We can accommodate half-day shifts or even a few hours — whatever fits your schedule!)
This is a wonderful opportunity for Scouters, alumni, retirees, and anyone who loves helping and wants to give back in a visible, meaningful way. Training and support will be provided — you bring the friendly smile and Scout spirit!

In every cardiac emergency, the real first responder is not always a uniformed professional but often a friend or family member, or even a stranger. Cardiac arrest can strike anywhere – at the gym, in the grocery store, or during a child’s soccer game. However, people nearby only intervene about 40% of the time, often due to uncertainty or lack of training.
The truth is you do not need medical credentials to save a life. All you need is to be prepared, and willing to step in and help.
Immediate CPR and AED use can double or even triple someone’s chance of surviving, and according to the latest American Heart Association CPR guidelines (published in October 2025), children as young as 12 years old can be taught effective CPR and defibrillation (how to use an AED).
Together, we can double survival rates for cardiac arrest by 2030, but it starts with learning CPR. Visit heart.org/nation to get started.

The Salvation Army to Distribute Hygiene Products, Blankets, and Socks on Friday, March 13
The Salvation Army will host another community distribution event on Friday, March 13, providing essential items, including hygiene products, blankets, and socks, to anyone in need. The distribution is open to the public and available while supplies last.
The distribution will take place beginning at 9am-12pm in the parking lot adjacent to the Emergency Food Pantry, located at 100 Linden Street, Syracuse NY. Items will be available to any individuals and families in need, while supplies last.
This effort is part of The Salvation Army’s ongoing commitment to support individuals and families facing hardship by ensuring access to necessities that promote health, comfort, and dignity.
Community members who need items such as hygiene supplies, warm blankets, or socks are encouraged to attend and receive assistance. No appointments or ID are required.
In addition, anyone needing immediate help with essential needs—including housing, utility payments, food, mental health services, healthcare, disaster recovery, transportation, or other community resources—is encouraged to contact 2-1-1.
2-1-1 is a free and confidential service that connects individuals with locally available programs and support services. Trained specialists are available to help people find the resources they need.
By dialing 2-1-1, individuals can quickly access information about assistance programs and community services available in their area.
